The Truth that Is Slander

24 And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him.
25 And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. --Genesis 9

All Ham did was tell the truth. His father Noah was drunk and naked in the tent. All Ham did was report the fact to his other brothers. They, more honorable than he, took a garment, put it on their shoulders, went backward, and covered their father. They refused to look on his nakedness. They knew that those who received slander were as guilty as he who utters it. Ps 15:3 "He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbor, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbor." Le 19:16 "Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbor: I am the LORD."

Proverbs 6:16 "These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren."

Love covers sin and hides shame; it covers a multitude of sins. What do you think that God thinks about this kind of slander? Fast forward to the conquest of Canaan by Joshua, who was given orders to kill every man, woman, and child among the Canaanites, fulfilling the curse of Noah. The ways of God are very hard to those who transgress His commandments, especially to those that use truth as they see it to do harm.

This kind of slander in families is especially damnable, because faults are so well known by those who should love each other, making uncovering nakedness a horrible sin that not only is against morals but against nature and against the covenant of the home. If it includes father and mother it is contrary to the Fifth Commandment.

God did not curse all of Ham's seed, only a part of it, that in the line of Canaan. God had many good things for the Egyptians in the age of the Gospel and for the black race also descended from Ham. But the Canaanites were to be exterminated. [btw, the horrible idea that the curse of Noah condemned the black race to perpetual servitude is a damnable fiction; this part of the curse was fulfilled in the servitude of the Canaanites to the Jews after the conquest: ie the Gibeonites and others. God knew that they would not exterminate all of them but put them under bondage.]

But God looks with horror upon those who spread shame and uncover the nakedness of others. Jesus came to hide sin and put it away. God puts it behind is back and does not spread it around.

In fact, slander is the very work of the devil, for his works are lies and murder, and they are closely related, for [Pr 26:28] "A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin."

The prophet pronounces [Hab 2:15] "Woe unto him that giveth his neighbor drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness!" Many a secret harmful to others have been revealed when people have been drunk, and clever people know how to do this. For thousands of years spies use alcohol very effectively to discover the secrets of other nations.

One of the beautiful treasures gained by leading a man to Christ is this: Jas 5:20 "Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins." Never is the heart of Christ more revealed than in the hiding of sins.

On the other hand the inmost desires of Satan are revealed by the exposure of people to shame and disgrace, for Satan is the ultimate slanderer: Re 12:10 "And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night."

Of course, in legal procedures in church and state it is right and holy for men to give true accounts of the case before them, even if it means revealing the truth, shameful though it be. However, the Biblical principle described above is still seen in Western law that protects a spouse from the witness of his/her spouse, and children are not compelled to testify against parents or parents against children.

Satanic law, however, knows no such restraints and sets children against parents and parents against children, so that totalitarian states encourage and reward these betrayals. The public media has become an institution of slander for reward, especially since the courts have virtually exempted them from slander suits.

Proverbs 130:3 "If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? 4 But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared."
