Yep, and John Wesley, and John Knox, and
Jonathan Edwards. Martin Luther, Charles Hodge, Francis Turretin,
Theodore Beza. Even Francis Shaeffer was guilty of it. Matthew Henry,
Bishop Ridley, Bishop Ryle, and John Huss. Jay Adams, Herman Witsius, The
Huguenots, the Covenanters, the Hussites. They all engaged in it.
Many years ago a minister asked me, "Why are all the good commentaries
written by those who do this?" I said, "Just think about
it." But he never did.

Augustus Toplady, James Montgomery Boyce, William Tyndale, John Wycliffe, Isaac
Watts.
A few days ago, somebody expressed amazement
that even Bud Powell did it. He didn't realize that he was showing his
ignorance of one of the important things of Christianity.
These are only a few of the great lights of
the church that have placed their stamp on American Christianity in the best
sense of the world. What is the terrible thing that all of these people
practiced on a regular basis? How could they have been so stupid?
Where was their proof text for doing this? I guess they just loved Rome
too much. Do ya think?
